Once the Lion’s Gate Bridge was completed in the 1930s, residential development began in the Capilano Highlands, or “The Village”, as locals like to call their neighbourhood.
As more people settled in the area, commercial business was attracted. In 1947, the first shops opened, including a dry goods store, a restaurant, and a pharmacy. As the residential area grew, so did the number of businesses. Soon there was a District of North Vancouver branch of the public library, a fire hall, and a community policing office. Today, Edgemont Village has over 70 businesses including dentists, doctors, and other professional services.
